Has anyone written a song about August? At the moment, I cannot recall one. I don’t know how I feel about August. This is not new news. It has never been a month that I look forward to – like June. Or September. Or October. Or April. And, now, it causes me much angst. It is the month that Steve was born; That Steve got sick and died; that Steve and I got married; that Steve was buried in Boston with his family; that I married Darrell MacIntyre; and that many “best and used-to-be best” friends have birthdays. So, as a result, I am walking myself silly, trying to build my legs back to “normal” – whatever that is.
SO, some wonderful memories and some not-so-wonderful memories – all of them vivid in my mind’s eye. It would be nice if I could just “move on”, but so far, I have not been able to do that. Well, sorta. So, in honor of Steve Orlandella and good friends, here are some dates and some pictures.
August 7: Steve Orlandella and Jay W. MacIntosh got married in Las Vegas, Nevada.
August 9: Steve Orlandella was buried in Boston, MA, along side his family, per his wishes.
August 11: Steve Orlandella was born in Boston, MA, to his mother and father, Vito and Therese Orlandella.
August 31: Steve Orlandella died of heart failure at Hopital L’Archet in Nice, France.
Other dates:
August 7: My friend Alice’s birthday.
August 13: My friend Rosemary’s birthday.
August 14: My friend Carole’s birthday.
August 17: My anniversary with Darrell William MacIntyre (my children’s father).
These were dates that still hover in my mind every August. Plus, there are many more August birthdays and events but these are foremost in my “days gone by” memory book because they were printed with indelible ink into my brain. (Remember “indelible ink” – that dates me right there!! haha). So this post is dedicated to all of those people who are part of my past in important ways. Gone, but not forgotten. And, they never will be. Period, end of story!
Best, Jay
Still beautiful you are

Thanks. I don’t know why one would have so many memorable things happen in August. I enjoyed all the photos-of course most of folks I know or have known The one of Alice W. birthday I also saw Bo and Alice K. I had also forgotten that we wore white shirts with the G pinned on for those hot end of summer games. Dumb cheerleader uniform anyhow!
Seeing Rosemary reminded me of the latest on her. Jene told us about it at breakfast last time She is invited to lots with her still “celebrity” status – that sounds catty of me but I just meant it as a fact. Anyhow Rosemary’s 2 daughters have moved her-using Jene’s words-to a new exclusive older adult community and there was a house warming recently. The place is on the lake off Thompson Bridge Road but I don’t know the name. It was decorated without Rosemary’s input – again so they say – and she was just moved in when all was ready. To say it is elegant is not enough. Art work covering all the walls. Furnishings wonderful— There is no kitchen or meal prep area so apparently meals are in their dining room. I may be telling you what you already know because I’m sure Facebook has it covered. I, too, have always loved Rosemary. I knew her from an early age because I was always the little cousin who was invited to my cousin Sue Oliver’s birthday events. Sue’s family lived in the country throughout her growing up so birthday parties were all day events, picking cotton riding the horse and even gathering the eggs. I used to see her often at the History Center when I volunteered there and she was fascinated hearing about my quilting machine because you quilt free handed and able to design what you want.. In my case what my ability allows which isn’t like hers. I haven’t seen her since last winter at a luncheon at the CCC. She was surrounded so all I could do was wave. I did notice that she is using a cane.
Good luck with your walking. You have a wonderful place to do it

PS I just remembered a Rosemary story. In the 80s we were out of the Army and living on the Gulf coast south of Tallahassee. I had a job trying to organize a professional speaker whose main title of speeches was “Getting Organized and Staying Organized”. haha. He was a mess. He was a regular speaker for CASE – Forgot what the acronym is but it’s related to education and there were always lots of college staff there and she was working at Gainesville Jr. College then. Rosemary heard him in New Orleans at a meeting. I came across a letter from her asking if there was a possibility of partnership joining him on the platform. That tickled me so I got in touch with her and we met for lunch a couple of times when I came to visit. Of course the partnership wasn’t considered because at the time John, a former professor at FSU, was just beginning his career. As for as my job, I became his marketing person which was fun because I got to travel a lot. After about 8 years of frustration because he could never stay with things until the finished product I just quit. People were begging for how to tapes, books. DayTimer even offered him deal on planning and record keeping but he could never finish. We still are good friends and until Gates’ health got so bad we would visit him in NYC where he has a brownstone – which incidentally is still unfinished after owning it for 25+ years. It helps that he is married to a newly retired vice president of ASCAP. She is quite a woman. >

Kay, I LOVE reading all of this. I DID not know any of it. I don’t follow these people on Facebook. Long story. I left all those people years ago. But I loved them back then and still do. But I don’t think the feeling is mutual. So be it. We’ve all moved on. You are special and always will be so. Thanks for commenting! Sending love….
